Geraniums aren't just for Grandmas!

One beautiful site to see at Garden Path Greenhouse is the "Geranium House" when it comes into bloom.  The benches become a sea of reds, pinks, fuchsia, whites, and oranges.  Now there's a reason for the nickname "Grandma's Flower".  With age comes wisdom, and grandma knows the value of geraniums' flower power and the ease of care.  Geraniums love sunshine, and most do well with light to moderate watering.  Martha Washington geraniums have a different type leaf and flower, and prefer moister soil, cooler temps and less sun.  There are scented geraniums that when you rub a leaf you can smell the "flavor".  Ivy geraniums have a trailing habit making them great for baskets and window boxes.  Ivy types prefer an evenly moist, not wet soil.  The last group has finer cut leaves, very delicate shaped flowers, and one called "Vancouver Centennial" has yellow and brown leaves, ( and no it's not dead!) So if you visit us this spring, take a peek at the geraniums for a good old-fashioned flower that performs well in modern times.
